AYANCIK LINEN CLOTH
Ayancık Linen Cloth is woven in Ayancık district of Sinop province and Gürsökü Village of Ayancık district. Although the exact history of linen weaving in Sinop is unknown, according to the information obtained from written sources, it is thought to date back to very ancient times. In accordance with the 1927 Industrial Census of the State Statistical Institute, 104 people were found to exercise weaving within the region.
Ayancık Linen Cloth is woven in 35-40 cm width in plain weaving weft by using linen in both warp and the scarf or by using cotton or linen in warp and the scarf. It is known that very old examples within the region were completely woven from linen material. In Ayancık Linen Cloth, natural white colour (natural linen colour) and linen yarns that are bleached by boiling them with wood ash are used. Headscarf, shirt, salwar, underwear/long underpants/underpants, jacket/short üç etek (traditional dress for women), towel, table cloth and napkin are made from Ayancık Linen Cloth.
Country of origin geographical indication no. 263 were taken by Ayancık Public Education Centre and Evening Art School Directorate, effective as of 26.11.2012 according to the Industrial Property Law No. 6769 for the protection of Ayancık Linen Cloth.
