SİİRT BLANKET
Siirt Blanket is woven in Siirt province. It is stated that the development of blanket and mohair weaving in Siirt began in the 13th century when the Ankara Angora goat was brought to Siirt. In the 19th century, Siirt blankets gained worldwide fame and became a sought-after weaving.
Siirt Blanket is a weaving that is feathered by wetting the weaving surface and shaping it with steel combs after the weaving process in the plain weave weft is completed by using cotton in the warp and mohair spun with the weft. Siirt blankets, which have a very slippery and soft texture, also have insulation characteristics and are used throughout the year. Siirt Blanket is woven in natural white cotton colour, natural white mohair colour, natural black wool colour, grey, brown and light brown colours. Patterns in weaving are created from geometric shapes. Blankets, prayer rugs, saddlebags and covers are made from this weaving.
The source of origin indication no. 57 was received by Siirt Governorship Special Administration Directorate for the protection of Siirt Blanket as of 24.02.2003 within the scope of the article no. 12 of the Decree Law No. 555 on the Protection of Geographical Indications.
