EFLANİ KERCHIEF CLOTH
Eflani Kerchief Cloth is woven in Eflani district of Karabük province. It is thought that weaving of Eflani kerchief cloth dates back to ancient times. In the past, almost every house had weaving looms, while today the number has considerably decreased.
Eflani Kerchief Cloth is a doubled winged-weave, woven as 50cm in width and 100cm in length. It is woven in plain weaving weft as well as cotton warp and scarf of which have natural white colour. It is combined with seams and shaped into square design. It is a headscarf with fringed edges traditionally used in Karabuk women clothing. Patterns are created with additional scarf threads of different colours and thicknesses. The four sides of the circle are striped, the corners are crossed/plaid. (In local names) Tek Fitil (Single Ribbed), Çift Fitil (Double Ribbed), Top Fitil (Ball Ribbed, Analı Kızlı, Satır Eteği are examples of the patterns woven in the all four edges of the cloths. Moreover, borders are formed with white-red-white lines on the opposite short edges of the kerchief. The middle of the kerchief has various designs and is patterned with different pattern yarns. Eflani Kerchief weave is used for headscarf, loin cloth and towel.
Eflani Kerchief Cloth was registered on 03.11.2015 for country of origin/geographical indication no. 191 as the result of the application of Eflani Governorship Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation, and has the protection under the Industrial Property Law No. 6769, which became effective as of 15.04.2008.
